Lampeter and District Dog Training Centre is located in the heart of West Wales approximately 8 miles from Lampeter and 4 miles from Tregaron.
The Centre is run by Sue MacFarquhar a registered member of The Federation of Dog Trainers and Canine Behaviourists with over 30 years experience in training, teaching and behavioural work. Having competed her own Dogs successfully in showing, obedience and agility, she has also trained Crufts breed winners, Dogs (including her own) for TV and Film work and has trained and managed a Dog display team. She also has experience of working with both deaf and blind Dogs and has had articles published in Dog training magazines. Owning and competing Dressage Horses, has also enabled Sue to combine her training skills and love of both Horses and Dogs to specialise in training Dogs to be the ideal companion around their Owners Horses, and she has recently had a series of articles published in a national equestrian magazine on this subject. She has also had great success helping Owners with nervous show Dogs and recent Clients have gone on to show sucessfully at Crufts. She has previously trained Dogs belonging to Television and Stage personalities and relatives of the Saudi Royal family. Throughout this period she has been recommended by Vets, Dog Rescue Societies and previous Clients.
Many Dogs cannot cope with the pressures of being trained in the confines of a hall, which is totally unnatural, frequently overcrowded and usually noisy often causing Dogs and Owners unnecessary stress. All training at the centre is held outdoors in the Dogs normal environment. An escape proof large exercise area is also available so that they can 'let off steam' before classes if required and training groups are kept to a manageable number with plenty of space for everyone.
Each Dog is individually assessed and offered a place in a training group best suited to it's age and temperament. A separate socialising group is run for Puppies, ensuring that they learn to interact correctly but above all safely with other Dogs of their own age. They are never placed in a group with older or aggressive Dogs for which other training groups are held. Rescue Dogs that have social problems also have their own training group, which enables Owners to relax and slowly start to re-educate their Dogs with others in a similar situation.
Training can be continued to whatever level the Owner wishes and weekly sessions are held to enable Owners and Dogs to train regularly. Individual sessions are also available to cater for Clients who prefer to receive one to one training. These start from the basics to more advanced work with each lesson being tailored to suit the Owner and Dog's requirements. Home visits are also arranged for behaviour problems not covered by training classes and a full back up service is offered to all the Centre's Clients for the lifetime of the Dog.
All ages and breeds of Dog are welcome to come and train in an enjoyable safe environment where the welfare and happiness of your Dog is as important to your Trainer as it is to you. Whatever your Dog and whatever the problem you will always be made to feel welcome. Some Trainers cannot deal with Dogs that do not conform to 'text book training' leaving Owners without the support and help they have attended Training classes to get. Here you are never left to deal with any problems by yourself and will always be given help and advice. Effective but kind methods are used to ensure that owning your Dog becomes and remains the pleasure it should be!
*** Agility training is now being incorporated into all of the obedience classes, as part of each training session***
